A Study of physical and mental health and tendency of taking habitual substances of Nurses


Abstract
This study is for measuring the physical and mental health of nurses, and the trend of taking some habitual substances of nurses. The study was done using the questionnaires adjusted by C.M.L, the object of the study was 330 nurses who worked at four general hospitals in Seoul.
The status of health were analyzed by age, years of service, place of work, religion, marital status, position, taking meal, job satisfaction, taking analgesics and hypnotic, hours of sleep on night duty, weight loss and increase in irritability.
The results are as follows:
1. The average of health status of the whole objects was: G.H. :76,384, P.H. 49, 487, M.H. :26,978.
2. The distribution of age was from 20 to 46, the complaints from the over aged 30 were less than under 30 significantly.
3. There was no significance in health status between the objects who had relig-ion or not.
But, viewing per religion, the nurses who were Christian remarkably less compl-ained for their mental problem comparing with the nurses who had other religions. 4. The married nurse complained less than the not married for their health problem.
5. The complaint for the mental symptoms of the head nurse and supervisor was significantly less than that of the staff nurse.
6. There was less complaints from the nurses in O.P.D. and nursing Dept., but there were significantly much complaints from the nurses in nursery.
7. The complaints for the health problem from the nurse who thought themselves took meals well were significantly less than that who thought not.
8. The group that was satisfied with their present job complained for mental symptoms less than that was not satisfied.
The reasons of. dissatisfaction were: (1)poor salary (2) too much service and hardness (3) irregularity in duty (4) not sufficient recognition for their job from society and etc,
9. The group taking sleep for 4?8 hours in day time completing the night duty complained for health problem significantly less that the group who sleep less than 4 hours or sleep more than 8 hours. The nurses who had their wt. loss during night duty were appealed for the mental symptoms more than that whoa had no wt. loss. The nurse replied their increase in nervousness on night duty complained signific-antly more than them who did not.
10. The nurses who took the hypnotic complained for the health problem more significantly than the nurses who did not take hypnotic.
11. The nurses who took the analgesics complained for the health problem more significantly than the nurses who did not take analgesics.
